Aluminium is a popular construction material for boats as there is no requirement to paint, other than antifouling. It is by nature corrosion resistant as a hard oxide film forms on the surface which gives excellent protection from the harsh marine environment. Although it is not necessary to paint aluminium boats many people want to customise their boats to a colour of their choice.
